Cyber Detective CTF is an OSINT-focussed CTF created by the Cyber Society at Cardiff University.

In this article we are going to quickly solve the CyberSoc CTF — OSINT Challenges

In this challenge we have a target of whom twitter account is provided. We can easily gather the following details from the twitter account by just taking the initial look.

Remember here that we are trying to build the context from the very beginning. Moving further we can gather the account statistics i.e. How many users is he following and how many followers does he has. Because no one follows someone without having an influence.

On taking a closer look into the user account which are James Markson is following. We can find 2 politicians accounts.

  1. Barack Obama → United States
  2. Jeremy Corbyn → United Kingdom

As he is just following these 2 politicians we can not build the context here. Thus, we will have to take a look into the tweets of this user to see, if he has retweeted any of the political news/tweet. As this will provide that which party has his influence on.

While going through the tweets of this user we can see the below tweet.

Seems like James is agreeing to what Ron Wyden has to say about Donald Trump where Trump represents Republican Party.

On doing a quick research on Ron Wyden, we can see that he represents Democratic Party. While Jeremy Corbyn represents Labour Party.

Thus, we can prove that James Markson supports Democratic Party and we can have a complete mind-map of the James Markson Twitter Account.

I will be using the same mind-map to map all the activities/information related to this account and associated ones to complete our investigations!
